穆时英 (1912-1940），浙江慈溪人。他的作品，题材丰富，风格多样。《咱们的世界》是穆时英的处女作，施蛰存说"整篇小说都用地道的工人口吻叙述工人的生活和思想，这种作品在当时的左翼刊物如《拓荒者》、《奔流》等也没有见过"。《黑旋风》、《南北极》等，小说中的主人公，是上海滩底层的烈性汉子甚至是黑社会人物。当年左翼批评家曾指出穆时英具有"浓重的流氓无产阶级的意识"、"十足的中国式的流氓意识"。穆时英的小说受日本新感觉派和欧美现代派影响，如《公墓》就是用另一副笔墨写出的"完全不同的小说"。
