K-Gr 3-Basic scientific concepts are illustrated in this series, which explains dinosaurs and fossils, the importance of recycling and conservation, how things move, pumpkins, day and night, animal life cycles, physical materials, and the four seasons. These titles use simple layouts, familiar vocabulary terms, and basic sentence structures. Most of the text appears on a white background, which allows beginning readers to build confidence in recognizing new words and sounds. Boldface vocabulary terms are featured in a glossary. A teaching guide offers ideas on how to present these topics in the classroom through further reading and hands-on activities. The layout and intended reading level make this series ideal for kindergartners and first graders, but it could also appeal to advanced readers who have an interest in these subjects. VERDICT A good choice for elementary school libraries and public libraries that focus on K-3 reading and literacy initiatives.
