Watkins (The Inner Gym) explains how meditation is easy and comfortable, especially for those who may be unsure of where to start. Using principles of transcendental meditation, Watkins defines what meditation is and why it can be beneficial and provides a four-step method to make meditating simple and comfortable. He even supplies a generic but purposeful mantra that he refers to as a "settling sound." Watkins is especially effective at allaying all of the worries and preconceived notions about "doing it right." Do you fall asleep while meditating? That's okay; you may be sleep deprived. Are you checking the time? Yes, that's okay, too. He breezily addresses excuses one might have for not meditating or not sticking with a regular practice, setting them aside with good-natured logic and reason.
